Why Linux Mint
Linux Mint is free, runs well on older hardware and does not phone home. For a UF team it is a good way to avoid Windows-licence costs.
Before you start
- Back up any files on the computer.
- Download the ISO from the official Linux Mint website.
- Have a USB stick of at least 4 GB.
Write the installer
Use BalenaEtcher or Rufus to flash the ISO to the USB stick. Boot the computer from the stick and follow the installer.
After installation
- Run the update manager.
- Install the packages you need through the Software Manager or
apt. - Enable the firewall with
sudo ufw enable.
