Comparing Odoo with SAP or Microsoft Dynamics is like comparing a modern EV with a truck. Both can get you there, but they're built for different circumstances.
SAP Business One / S/4HANA
SAP is the standard for large companies. Extremely customizable, industry-specific solutions, robust compliance handling. But: implementation takes months to years, costs hundreds of thousands to millions, and requires certified consultants. Ongoing license costs for a mid-sized company run 50,000 to 200,000 SEK per year.
Microsoft Dynamics 365
Deeply integrated with the Microsoft ecosystem (Office 365, Teams, Power BI). Good for companies already living in the Microsoft world. The license model is per user and module, from 500 SEK per user per month. Sounds cheap until you add all modules a mid-sized company needs.
Odoo
Community Edition: free. Enterprise: from 24 EUR per user per month. Implementation takes weeks, not months. No consultant requirements for basic configuration. Modules are simpler but cover 80 percent of needs for 80 percent of SME companies.
Where Odoo falls short
Complex manufacturing with ten-level BOM explosions. Industry-specific compliance (pharmaceutical, food). Advanced financial reporting with complex group structures. That's where SAP and Dynamics are stronger.
Where Odoo wins
Time to value. Cost. Simplicity. A company with 20 employees needing CRM, invoicing, inventory, and a website can be up and running with Odoo in a week. The same setup in SAP takes three to six months and costs ten times more.
Choose the system that matches your size and complexity, not the one that looks most impressive in a demo.
