Klarna or Stripe: Payment Solution for WooCommerce

What fits depends on who you sell to

Klarna and Stripe are the two most common payment solutions for WooCommerce in Sweden. They solve the same basic problem but target different needs.

Klarna

Sweden's most common payment method after cards. "Buy now, pay later" and installments. Customers trust Klarna. It lowers the threshold, especially for more expensive products. Klarna Checkout takes over the entire checkout process: the customer fills in their details in Klarna's widget, not in WooCommerce's checkout.

The fee is around 2.5 to 3.5 percent depending on volume and agreement. Money takes one to two business days to arrive. Klarna's customer service handles payment disputes, not you.

Stripe

Cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay. Clean integration with WooCommerce. The customer stays in your checkout the whole way. 1.4 percent plus 1.80 SEK per transaction for European cards. Lower fee than Klarna, but no "pay later" options.

Stripe gives you more control over the checkout experience. You design the flow, Stripe handles payment in the background. Good for B2B, international customers, and situations where you want full control.

Both?

Yes, we often run both. Stripe as the primary card option, Klarna for installments. The customer chooses at checkout. More administration, but more payment options generally means fewer abandoned carts.

Swish

If you sell to Swedish consumers, they often want to pay with Swish. Payson, Bambora, or QuickPay offer WooCommerce integrations with Swish support. Fees vary but typically run around 2 to 3 SEK per transaction.

Test the payment flow from a customer's perspective after installation. Every extra step in the checkout costs conversions.
